A few words from the CEO

Dear reader,

Welcome to Greater Geneva Bern area’s Annual Report for 2023.

Throughout the past year, GGBa diligently pursued its three core missions – prospection, promotion, and business intelligence – with support from the cantonal economic development agencies of Bern, Fribourg, Vaud, Neuchâtel, Geneva, and Valais. This concerted effort led to the successful establishment of 76 foreign companies initiating new business operations in the region, originating from 25 countries worldwide. Furthermore, over 180 companies conducted assessment visits.

These 76 newcomers, primarily hailing from the ICT, Life Sciences, CleanTech, Precision and Services sectors, are projected to generate over 600 jobs in the next three years. France remains the primary investor, and, notably, China is now a significant contributor, emphasizing the region’s increasing attractiveness on the global investment stage.

Amid the persistent challenges posed by the evolving global economic landscape, Western Switzerland stands resilient, providing a stable and attractive environment for businesses seeking growth and development. Indeed, in 2023, GGBa’s representatives identified nearly 200 new projects, contributing to a robust pipeline of over 500 active projects.

Promoting the region internationally through marketing and communication activities has been an integral part of our mission since the inception of GGBa back in 2010. This strategic emphasis has only grown in significance in recent years, particularly with the establishment of key partnerships, and the development of digital marketing tools and unique initiatives that further amplify our commitment to showcasing the exceptional opportunities within Western Switzerland.

Our overarching goal remains to contribute substantial value and make a positive impact on the region’s development and prosperity, and we remain optimistic about the future, despite acknowledging the challenging global economic and geopolitical conditions. Feel free to explore our Annual Report 2023 to gain a comprehensive understanding of the initiatives that have unfolded in Western Switzerland throughout the year.

On behalf of Western Switzerland’s investment promotion team, I wish you an insightful read.
